Distinguishing Christian Witchcraft and Religion
The issue on the case if there’s a common ground between witchcraft and Christianity has been prevailing up to the present. Since then, the relationship between witches and Christians has been in a state of disrepair, and not even the 21st century could resurrect it. This topic has been a quite sore spot for most individuals. Thus, we should deal this through an honest and respectful approach.
Firstly, we should discuss a little bit about the Burning Times. For those people who are not familiar with the term, Burning Times refer to the certain time when hundreds of thousands of people were called as witches and heretics, and they were burned at the stake. Eventually, as people became a little more humane about their acts, the burning was substituted by hanging. However, the intent was all the same. It was an unfortunate time wherein horrible things were done to others in the name of religion. However, this instance is something that witches need to get over in order for them to move on. For over the years, there are horrible things done for religion. Nevertheless, the society still selects to remember, and they take whatever steps they need for them to make sure that it will never happen again. That’s how to move on. It might not be that easy, but it is essential. Trying to filter through the ashes and look for a common thread between these two entities may be a challenging task, and yet, the similarities might become striking once the two religions are down to their core elements.
Witchcraft can be closely similar of those teachings in the Church. Before the rise of Christianity, the concept of praising various Gods for different purposes was a popular belief that was shared by many people. The Goddess was linked with the moon and the other deep mysteries of life while the god was associated with the sun and the creatures of the earth. However, the system was reversed as Christianity propagated. The God is now holding the central figure, while the Goddess assumes the smaller, yet the vital role of the Virgin Mary. She’s powerful that she have conceived and given birth to her son without asking for any extra help. Jesus, his son, is like his mother who had a lot of power. Jesus was considered as the first real psychic, first clairvoyant, Highest Priest of a new order, and a misunderstood men. He has most of the abilities that were later described in the Bible that is linked with witchcraft, such as healing by hands, magic, prophecy, and among others. Another similarity is the golden rules that which people try to live in their everyday lives. It is the Wiccan Rede or the Law of three by witches, similarly closer to the Ten Commandments. Though they might be differently explained, but the basic idea within the rules is the same, which is to love oneself and those people around, and keeping in mind that kindness and generosity provide own personal rewards.
Both concepts are quite similar. Both Christian witchcraft and Christianity believe that there can be more to life after death. If this is the case, then the different religions of the world would share a common thread, thereby sharing only one common belief.
