A solo witch is ‘a person who practices witchcraft alone and who has not been initiated or made a formal tie with a coven.’ A solo witch is also known as a hedgewitch. The solo witch practices witchcraft for healing, for other reasons, and also teaches. Building inspiration and teaching is usually done through books. In Britain the works of Marian Green and Rae Beth have been influential, and in the United States the works of Scott Cunningham and Ray Buckland have been influential. The majority of solo witches work for good, but there has been evidence that their activities are of a different nature.
